Rodrigo Diaz was fastest man today in 59:21.
Only eight of us arrived in Calabogie this morning to chilly 8 degree temperatures. We were glad that John Warren delayed the start time by half an hour. The temperature raised a few degrees in this time, and by race end we were up to 20°C. There was virtually no wind, though the high air pressure was detrimental. Concerning today's riders and their Calabogie rides this year, the fastest two, Rodrigo Diaz (59:21) and Darrin Grace (1:05:08), were doing their first 40km Calabogie ride of 2011. Of the other six, three improved upon their season-series best. three were faster today and three were slower. Second place woman Laura Johnson (1:17:17) was the most improved with more than a 27% improvement in her cube speed - and the improvement would have been considerably more had she not missed her start time by about 20 seconds! First place woman, Celia McInnis (1:11:48), the second most improved with a 13.22% improvement, was thrilled not to have been caught by Giorgio, Les or Bram. The third most improved for the season-series, and third overall today, was Russ Redshaw (1:08:29) riding a beautiful blue Pinarello classic bicycle from 1985. Two of today's riders improved upon their previous database best on this course, with Laura having almost a 20% improvement and Darrin Grace having a 2.86% improvement. Good riding all! This was the last ABC 40km time trial for 2011, though three ABC 15km time trials remain on the Tatlock Road course.
